چکیده

This paper presents parallel kinematic XY flexure mechanism designs based on systematic constraint patterns that allow large ranges of motion without causing over-constraint or significant error motions. Key performance characteristics of XY mechanisms such as mobility, cross-axis coupling, parasitic errors, actuator isolation, drive stiffness, lost motion, and geometric sensitivity are discussed. The standard double parallelogram flexure module is used as a constraint building-block and its non-linear force-displacement characteristics are employed in analytically predicting the performance characteristics of two proposed XY flexure mechanism designs. Fundamental performance tradeoffs, including those resulting from the non-linear loadstiffening and elastokinematic effects, in flexure mechanisms are highlighted. Comparisons between closed-form linear and non-linear analyses are presented to emphasize the inadequacy of the former. It is shown that geometric symmetry in the constraint arrangement relaxes some of the design tradeoffs, resulting in improved performance. The non-linear analytical predictions are validated by means of computational FEA and experimental measurements.

Optimization of the Kinematic Sensitivity and the Greatest Continuous Circle in the Constant-orientation Workspace of Planar Parallel Mechanisms

This paper presents the results of a comprehensive study on the efficiency of planar parallel mechanisms, considering their kinetostatic performance and also, their workspace. This aim is approached upon proceeding single- and multi-objective optimization procedures. Kinetostatic performances of ten different planar parallel mechanisms are analyzed by resorting to a recent index, kinematic sens...

Design of a Large Range Xy Nanopositioning System

Achieving large motion range (> 1mm) along with nanometric motion quality (< 10nm), simultaneously, has been a key challenge in nanopositioning systems. Practical limitations associated with the individual physical components (bearing, actuators, and sensors) and their integration, particularly in the case of multi-axis systems, have restricted the range of currently available nanopositioning s...

A simple and efficient dynamic modelling method for compliant micropositioning mechanisms using flexure hinges

In this paper we consider the dynamic modelling of compliant micropositioning mechanisms using flexure hinges. A simple modelling method is presented that is particularly useful for modelling parallel micropositioning mechanisms. This method is based upon linearisation of the geometric constraint equations of the compliant mechanism. This results in a linear kinematic model, a constant Jacobian...

Kinematic and Dynamic Analysis of Tripteron, an Over-constrained 3-DOF Translational Parallel Manipulator, Through Newton-Euler Approach

In this research, as the main contribution, a comprehensive study is carried out on the mathematical modeling and analysis of the inverse kinematics and dynamics of an over-constraint three translational degree-of-freedom parallel manipulator. Due to the inconsistency between the number of equations and unknowns, the problem of obtaining the constraint forces and torques of an over-constraint m...
